About Us

The company was incorporated in 1982 although the name Fairking originated a decade earlier when Francis Nicholls of John K King & Sons and Peter Fairs of HJ Fairs & Son started a successful business relationship.

The early years involved adding value to Pulses through Colour Sorting, Splitting and Polishing but it was the fascination with Novel Crops which cemented the partnership of Fairs and Kings.  Much was learnt through the relative failures of Grain Maize and Navy Beans in the 1970’s. The 1980’s brought success with Quinoa, Lunaria and Borage. Despite fierce opposition from some quarters High Erucic Rapeseed was introduced to the UK and unreliable Eastern European imports were reduced.

Today, Fairking Ltd is a totally independent family company but the interest and association with speciality crops is undimmed. Founder Peter Fairs has been joined on the board by his son Andrew whose farming expertise has helped to develop even better growing techniques for the unique range of crops grown and processed by the company. Progressive farmers are now contracting with Fairking Ltd to benefit from attractive, profitable niche markets.
